MEET THE WINDSPIRE - A Unique Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

The formal agreement to manufacture Mariah Power’s Windspire in Michigan was made at a joint press Conference with Governor Granholm on Friday October 9 th, 2008 in Traverse City, Michigan. As a result, our customers will save on freight charges and good jobs in renewable energy are being created. There is also a new 30% federal tax credit (up to $4,000) for small wind turbine systems and a new and streamlined net metering process because of Michigan's new renewable portfolio standard.

The Windspire is a quiet, attractive Vertical Axis Wind Turbine that employs a simple and durable construction. It is 30 feet tall which is under the usual 35 foot zoning limit height restriction. We are offering a 1.2 KW version at this time and more than one unit can be integrated to provide as much power as needed for each project.

Unlike propeller wind turbines, the Windspire rotor generates instantaneous power from wind in any direction. This feature makes it uniquely qualified to capture wind variations close to the ground. It also spins with a tip speed as much as three times lower, making it safer and quiet.

The Windspire rotor catches wind energy and drives a high efficiency generator to produce electric power. A built-in smart inverter converts this power into a regulated form that can be “plugged into the local electric grid. The more wind, the more power the Windspire will supply to your home or business. If it is producing more power than you are using at any time, the excess power simply goes into the support of the local electric grid. And you receive a Net metering credit against your bill.

For those interested in monitoring their energy generation, the Windspire includes an internal wireless modem that can continuously transmit performance information including wind speed and power performance directly to your computer within 100 meters or 330 feet of the unit.
